A subdomain is something.yourdomain.com. For example, if you used the domain name http://www.ynoshosting.com you could create subdomain called "contact" which could be viewed at http://contact.ynoshosting.com and the content would be in a folder called contact in your FTP web directory. You can easily password protect this part of your site using web security in the control panel.
